BASEBALL COACHING

A THREE-TIME CHAMPION COACH
THE SHORT STORY
My task was ahead of me, so I went to a park close to my home knowing there was a group of young guys hanging out in the park playing softball, basketball, and at night they wood be smoking weed amongst their friends so I approached them all and asked if they would be interested in playing organized baseball for the summer travelling team to represent Elmjack baseball league in the sandlot alliance tournament. They all send yes but it did not sound convincing enough to me at that time. I responded and said great all of you meet me at the baseball field this coming Tuesday to begin practice.

BASEBALL GLORY
How It All Started Throughout my years baseball was and still is my sport. As I mentioned in my Book (Belonging to yourself) I was scouted by two professional baseball farm teams. The turnout is not what I hoped for since I did not become a professional player. I felt saddened by the results but kept striving for something good. Years later I decided to coach for a baseball team at the same league where I grew up in my neighborhood. My goal was to give back to the young kids in my area. The team I coached were the 14 – 15 tear old division teaching them the fundamentals of the game. Not only teaching the sport, but also the respect, leadership that comes with the sport, along with the skills to do good in their lives and future. Elmjack little taught me the same growing up as a young child. From there I played for my varsity baseball team in high school. One day I was approached by the president of the league (Bobby) was his name and we began talking to one another. During our conversation he mentioned that he will have no choice but to cancel the senior division baseball traveling team due to lack of funds and said we don’t have a coach for this division. After listening my response was how much money do you need Bob? His reply was 2000 dollars for the uniforms, and for the bats and balls I then said no problem I will write you a check and I will be responsible to coach this division. The older kids ages 17 – 18 need to be off the streets Bobby. He then hugged me with watery eyes and thanked me for my offer and suggestions.
At this point there were no kids to start a team, I had to go out and recruit players to form a team.

At this time 10 players showed up from that conversation to begin the journey of practicing what I new to be something great for all of us. I was so happy to see they showed up, they kept there word that they wood. Now I am getting somewhere, afterwards I started scouting other player from high school that have the experience in playing organize baseball. I started hand picking players approaching them to come down and join my other players and it was working. It took me a few weeks to complete my scouting mission and I was successful in doing so. I was able to get 8 players from these schools and now I have a total of 18 guys ready to be competitive against an elite bunch of teams. I had them out 4 times a week, training was intense, batting practices, infield and outfield drills, running bases etc. The chemistry between them was flourishing. It was tough in the beginning which I expected and now it was a great blend amongst all of them. The experience was wonderful to see them all getting along helping one another each day we practiced.
Today looking back at this glorious time in all our lives, reading the newspaper articles knowing we won three consecutive championships in a row. They call that back-to-back to back. Champions!!
Life is beautiful having the opportunity to help others transform to something good and being true to yourself to see the end results is the passion of life. Who ever is reading this story the key element is always be kind to yourself and to others in this lifetime. That is why we are all here on this planet.
